I am NOT A Human

I write almost every morning on Medium.com, but today I was having a lot of trouble getting my thoughts out. Out of frustration I tried something totally different. I turned on my mic, closed my eyes…

Presentation Reflection

1. Discuss how your STEM experience supports STEM learning. Science-Outline the Scientific Inquiry Method (if applicable). Include your photos Which branch of science does your experience support? (Life, earth and space, physical or Science in Personal and Social Perspectives) Technology-use of Big T and Little T Engineering (if applicable) Outline the engineering design steps/process Math-explain/provide examples of math concepts involved in your STEM experience Include photos of your STEM presentation setup, your data display and children’s book.

Our STEM experience supports STEM learning by involving measurements/ measuring, following instructions, 1:1 ratio, sequences, comparing, and counting. This STEM experience supports the physical branch of science. Our experience begins by getting on half of a lemon and squeezing it into a bowl. In a separate bowl measure out 2 tbl of sugar, then boil water in a kettle and measure out a 1/4 cup and add it into the sugar, stirring to combine then add in the lemon juice and 1 cup of cold water, stir to combine and enjoy. these steps are then repeated but replacing the 1/2 lemon with one whole lime and when finished making both drinks you compare the difference in taste. Once you have tasted and compared the two drinks you will tally your preference on the data display sheet (image 1 below) using a yellow cut-out for lemonade or a green cut-out for limeade.

2. Choose two of your favourite STEM Presentations. For each one, discuss how STEM learning is supported. Note that Science will be discussed if applicable. Note engineering will be discussed if applicable. Include photos of the experiences

My two favourite presentations were the Exploring Sand Presentation and the Lava Lamp Presentation. Exploring Sand was STEM supported through 1:1 correspondence when making the sad mixture, measuring, engineering when building out of the sand, and comparing of the 2 types of sand mixtures. The Lava Lamp Presentation was STEM-supported when measuring the materials, trial and error (we used a bottle much too small), 1:1 correspondence, counting drops of dye, and testing the theory of what might happen.

3. Identify and discuss two (2) new learnings about STEM (anything from our Math and Science Course) for you over the past 10 weeks and why?

I learned that STEM is found everywhere in daily life and needs to be supported daily. For example, you can see children using the engineering process when innovating or problem-solving with blocks. As well, I learned the different methods and aspects of STEM and how to support them. For example, the types of math concepts to incorporate for children like rote counting.
