My Gig Experience

Before entering university, I had never been to a gig before. Because I’m not a fan of it, so I didn’t even think that I would go to a concert performace in my life. However, after I experienced gigs, I started to know why so many people would be attracted to going to gigs.

2016.9.18｜Huludun gig

I went to this huludun concert because one of my friend’s favorite singers was going to perform there. She promised me that I wouldn’t regret going with her. Though I doubted her words at that time, I was also curious about the gig.

When finally the singer that my friend favored the most came out on stage, the first few bars of the rhythm truly drew my attention. I was amazed.

The singer is Suming. He is an aboriginal singer from A-mei tribes. I have a stereotype that usually aboriginal people sing very well, but I believe his voice and the rhythm he made are totally gifted by the natural spirits. His voice has a power that could ease your mind and draws you to get into the flow of his music.

2017.6.25｜Fire EX. gig

The second concert I went to was Fire EX. This one was quite different from the previous Huludun gig since this was the first Taiwanese band I would want to listen to live because they wrote Island’s Sunrise for The Sunflower movement in 2014.

Before I got into the live house, my friend (yes, the one who took me to Huludun gig as well) had told me that Fire EX.’s concert may not be a performance that I assumed before.

She told me that in the Fire EX. performance, the audience is usually quite active. The first line in front of the gate they stand are usually called breakwater, and these people are aimed to maintain their line so that the people behind them won’t be too ‘active’ to rush onto the stage.

At first, I didn’t think this as a big deal; yet the interaction of the fans and the lead singer did an action that I have only seen in the movies at the near end of the concert: he came down to the stage and let the fans carry him with their hands. (This action is called crowd surfing.)

Blimey, the atmosphere at that time surged to the climax. Everyone was screaming and was excited to carry the lead singer, and the lead singer seemed already used to this custom that happened at the end of the show. Frankly speaking, I was totally blown away by this Fire EX. gig.

2018.3.31｜Czecho No Republic’s gig

This one is the first gig I went to after I graduated from university.

Actually I don’t think that I would go to see a gig actively since I was genuinely shocked by the Fire EX. gig. Even though I know in my mind that not every gig’s atmosphere is like them, somehow it gave me a really strong impression on gigs.

But I went to this one was because of a college roommate’s gathering, and one of my roommates was one of the staff that took care of this band.

Since I don’t really understand Japanese, I only focused on the rhythm they performed and I felt amazed by them. I think they also cherished this opportunity standing on stage in Taiwan, so I can feel that they sang their heart out to the audience.
