I Hit a New Publishing Record on Medium and Celebrated the Last Day at My Job

Here is what happened in December

December 20th was the last day I went to work. But it was not the last working day before a well-deserved end-of-year vacation.

It was the last working day. Period.

In November, I decided it was time to stop living for someday and quit my job. As I walked home, I felt relieved and sad at the same time.

The past five years were exhausting.

Being part of a young Startup meant working unpaid overtime, working on the weekends and my vacation days. I poured all my energy into the company and was rewarded for my efforts.

However, in the process, I abandoned my goals and passions for the sweet illusion of a good paycheck and a comfortable life.

Two months before the Covid-19 pandemic hit, I remembered my dreams.

I was burnt out and lonely.

My life lacked meaning.

And so, over the next two years, I took action to slowly but consistently create the conditions in my life that would finally allow me to quit in November 2022.

When I quit my job in November, I was full of hope and bravado. I created my own Medium publication and challenged myself to write one article per day in December.

Did I achieve my goal? No.

However, not because I was lazy, but because, in hindsight, this goal was unachievable from the start.

First, I still worked for my old company for half of the month. Secondly, I should have anticipated that I would be unable to write over Christmas and New Year’s.

And in addition to my overzealous optimism, I got sick again in December.

Still, I published 19 long-form articles, 5 short-form articles, and 1 Haiku poem. That’s a new publishing record for me. I…
